Noe and Rogelio lived in Lima for two years and Cusco was their escape to an older version of Peru that was quintessentially Peruvian. Every time they flew to the Andes, a mysticism and charm filled the air as they walked throughout the old Incan capital. When exploring Cusco, hundreds of houses have two ceramic bulls or “toritos” on the roof of their homes. Noe inquired at one of the boutique shops about the significance of the bulls. They were told that these bulls are called “Toritos de Pucara” and are a symbol of protection and prosperity. The tradition stems from pre-Incan tradition of placing objects on the roofs of homes for protection. The Toritos are placed in the highest shelf of their home to encourage the same energy and protection.
